~vern’s main VPS has been moved to Hetzner

Hello ~vern members,

We are pleased to announce that ~vern’s main VPS has been migrated from OVHCloud to Hetzner.

This was long overdue, thanks to the amount of weird stuff OVH has forced us to do.

A non-exhaustive list :)

• We only get 250 Mb/s
• Uses Haswell i7 and OpenStack (Linode/Hetzner use AMD Epyc/Intel Xeons with KVM)
• Doesn’t allow us to migrate to OVH US, meaning two jurisdictions.
• Allocates only one IPv6 IP (Hetzner, Linode etc. give an entire /64 subnet)
• Extreme overcharging (almost 7$ for a spec way worse than hetzner other than unlimited bandwidth)

While OVH has caused us much pain, some things we do appreciate about them include the fact that they offer unlimited bandwidth.

Another major change with the migration to Hetzner is that ~cobra now pays for the main VPS too.

~neo now manages only the canary and the domain.

We hope that these changes help with ~vern positively.
